Historic Streetcars

San Francisco, USA

The E and F Muni lines in San Francisco have historic streetcars running on them. A group called the Market Street Railway works closely with Muni to (among other things) acquire, maintain and advocate for the use of vintage streetcars, trams and trolleys from around the world. As a result of their efforts and the donations from their supporters, the E and F lines have about 20 different streetcars from around the world running every day.

How to Board & Exit The Streetcar

To get picked up by a streetcar, all you need to do is stand at a streetcar stop. You will have to board at the front of the vehicle near the driver door.

On streetcars, you must request a stop and open the doors yourself to exit a streetcar. To request a stop, pull the request stop line. When you arrive at your stop and need to exit, step down onto the first step at the rear doors to have the doors open for you.

Transfer Rules

You can transfer to and from streetcars, bus and metro as long as it is within a 120 minute window of your first payment. There are no additional charges for transferring between different streetcars, Muni Metro or Muni Bus routes.
