How to Board & Exit A Muni Bus
Not every bus in San Francisco will stop automatically if someone is standing next to a bus stop, you may have to flag down the driver. This is especially true in the more suburban areas. To board a bus, board at the front of the bus near the driver. You pay your fare at the machine next to the driver. If you have a transfer, a pass or use the smartphone app to pay your fare, then you can board at the back door too. To request a stop, press the request stop button on a nearby pole. When it comes time to get off the bus at your stop, exit at the rear doors.
Transfer Rules
You can transfer to and from Muni Bus and Muni Metro as long as it is within a 90 minute window of your first payment. There are no additional charges for transferring between different Muni Metro or Muni Bus routes.
