MetroCard
MetroCard is a reloadable plastic swipe card that allows you to travel on all MTA routes. How do you pay for the subway in NYC? The MetroCard is the answer. Cards can be purchased for $1.00 and can be loaded up with $5.50 - $80.00. MetroCards can be purchased or reloaded using credit cards, debit cards or cash at subway stations and kiosks. Swiping your card to enter a subway station or bus will automatically deduct $2.90 from your balance. Passengers over the age of 65 or with a disability can purchase a reduced fare MetroCard which brings the ride cost down to $1.45.
