The best way of getting a taxi in Taipei is flagging one down on the street. There is no local taxi app for your smartphone to request one to your current position.

Taxis are readily available in Taipei. There are two types of vehicles available:

Taxi fares in Taipei start at a base fare of NT$70 and increase by NT$25 for every 1km travelled. Taxi fares increase by NT$20 at night time (11:00 p.m. - 6:00 a.m.). You can pay your fare using cash in all taxis. Only a few accept credit card or Easy Card.

How to Board & Exit a Taxi

Because there is no local taxi app for requesting rides, the best way to get a taxi is to flag one down on the street. When they pull up to you, get in the back seat and show the driver your destination on your phone or map. Most taxi drivers in Taipei only speak Mandarin, so it’s important to have your location ready if you don’t speak Mandarin. If you would like to pay more to request an International Taxi, you can call 02-2799-7977 to request a ride over the phone. If you do this, your driver will speak English.
