How to Board & Exit a Bus

To get picked up by a bus, all you need to do is stand at a bus stop. People in Montréal line up while waiting at a bus stop so be sure not to skip ahead of anyone in line. If you are boarding a bus, you will have to board at the front of the vehicle near the driver door.

You can pay your fare on a bus in one of three ways: cash, transfer or OPUS card. To pay cash, deposit your coins into the ticket machine at the front of the bus near the driver. A receipt will pop out for you once you pay the full fare and your change will be given. If you are using OPUS card, you can tap your card on the top of the fare box. If you are transferring, show your existing ticket to the driver to board.

You must request a stop and open the doors yourself to exit a bus. To request a stop on a bus, pull the yellow line, or press a red stop (Arrêt) button. To exit at the front of the bus, the driver will open the door for you. To exit at the back of the bus, you will have to press the vertical bar on the rear doors.

Transfer Rules

You can freely transfer to and from a bus to an adjacent bus or Metro route within 2 hours of your first fare purchase.
