Citymapper
Here at Tunnel Time, we focus on the often undocumented needs of transportation like different types of tickets, how to buy them, how to board a vehicle and how to request stops. Once you understand these types of actions in a new city, the majority of your transportation prep time is usually spent figuring out how to get to your destination. There are lots of great direction apps for your phone or desktop and we showcase some of our favourites over on our Directions Page. Today, we’re adding another app to that resource, Citymapper.
What does Citymapper Offer?
Citymapper offers public transportation routes, bicycle sharing info and ride sharing requests in 41 cities around the world. They have great app design that does a good job of showing lots of data in a well designed series of views. Citymapper offers features like: nearby vehicle times, route suggestions & maps, fare differences between routes, calories burned (if you choose to walk or bike) and more. Check out some of the app screenshots below to see if Citymapper will work for you.
Follow My Trip
One of the features of Citymapper that I really enjoy is the ability to share my ETA with others. Public transit here in Toronto is often delayed, so being able to have friends or family check on my ETA and see me sitting on a streetcar is a nice feature to have. This is a feature I find myself using more when I need to take Uber or Lyft trips and am happy Citymapper offers it for public transit routes.
Citymapper Pass
An interesting feature of Citymapper is their Citymapper Pass product. Citymapper Pass is a subscription to all transportation options of a city that you can purchase from within the Citymapper app. Currently Citymapper Pass is only available in the company’s hometown of London, United Kingdom, but it is an interesting solution we are excited about. We’ve often discussed transit cards and how companies like Lyft and Uber are integrating public transit fare payments into their apps. I’m sure Citymapper would love to be able to have one pass work across all their cities of operation. If they can expand the Citymapper Pass program to multiple cities, travellers might actually have a one transit card to rule them all option.
We’ve added Citymapper to our Directions Page. Luckily for Tunnel Time users, Citymapper is available in the following Tunnel Time cities: Istanbul, London, New York City, Paris, Seoul, Singapore, Tokyo and Toronto.
