Fares and System Information

Taipei, Taiwan

Taipei Mass Rapid Transit (MRT or Metro) is the public transportation network of subways in Taipei. We will also include the information for Taipei Joint Bus System on this page. Although the buses are operated by 15 different different contracted companies, they share the same fare system as the Metro (EasyCard or Taipei Pass) and have transfer pricing when moving from a bus to the subway.

Distance System

Taipei public transit operates on a distance system. Fare prices are determined by where in the city you begin and end your trip. Above ticketing kiosks in the stations, you will find a system map with fare prices overlaid on each station.

Distance Example

  • Ximen Station to Taipei Main Station - Fare: NT$20

  • Huilong Station to Taipei Main Station - Fare: NT$40

Single Fare Finder

Taipei Metro has provided an online tool for finding the price of single fares for stations on their network. Select your starting station from the drop down list, or choose it from the map to get a list of single fare prices.

Tickets

There are several options for you to pay your fare when travelling on busses or subways in Taipei.

EasyCard

There are a few different providers of reloadable transit cards in Taipei and EasyCard is the biggest one. You can purchase a card for NT$100 and reload it at Metro stations and convenience stores like: 7-Eleven, FamilyMart, Hi-Life and OK Mart. The names of the other cards are iPass, icash and HappyCash. Both EasyCard and these other options can be used for small purchases at the previously mentioned stores as well.

Update October 12, 2020: In mid to late October 2020, you can once again get the Easy Card Poké Ball and pay your transit fares while catching Pokémon all at the same time. More info here at EasyCard on Facebook.

Single Fare Coin

If you need to purchase a single fare Metro ticket, the automated ticketing kiosks will give you a small plastic blue coin. These coins are tapped to enter a station, and then deposited when exiting at your destination.

Cash

When travelling on the MRT, cash is deposited into the ticketing kiosks and you will get blue single fare coin. When travelling on the bus, you can use cash to pay your fare when boarding the bus at the front door.
