Bus

Taipei, Taiwan

The Taipei Department of Transportation has contracted 15 different bus operation companies to provide surface travel in Taipei. Busses operate on the surface level city streets sharing the road with cars and motorcycles. Fares on the bus are determined by zone segment. It is NT$15 for each zone segment travelled and bus drivers do not give change. For this reason, it’s best to use EasyCard.

How to Board & Exit a Bus

Getting picked up by a bus is as easy as waiting by a bus stop and waiving the bus down. Once the bus arrives, tap your EasyCard card upon entering. To request a stop, press the red stop button and tap off when exiting. This is the best practice for people new to Taipei. Technically some bus routes only require you to tap on, and some only require you to tap off, but that can be confusing to people new to the city. If you are using EasyCard and tap both when boarding and exiting, your card will not double charge you for the same route on the same bus.

Transfer Rules

Discounted transfers are available to those using an EasyCard to ride the Metro or Bus. If you transfer between the Metro and Bus within one hour of tapping your card, you will receive an NT$8 discount on your trip. If you are planning to transfer from the Bus to the Metro or YouBike, you must tap your EasyCard twice on the bus when boarding.
