MRT

Singapore

The Mass Rapid Transit (MRT for short) is an aboveground and underground rail system that serves the entire island of Singapore. MRT is the primary mode of public transportation in Singapore and should be your first choice when travelling on the island.

How to Board & Exit The MRT

Follow the signs to find the platform for the train you plan to take. Line up using the guide arrows on the floor to allow exiting passengers to exit the train first before you enter. Every door will open up on each MRT car automatically at each station. You do not need to request stops or press any buttons or levers to open the doors, they are controlled automatically. When you reach your destination, you will have to tap your card when exiting the station. Stations often have multiple exits, so to save yourself some time when walking above ground, check your directions to leave the station using the closest exit to your destination.

Transfer Rules

You can transfer from one MRT station to another as long as the transfer is within 15 minutes of you leaving the first station. You can transfer from MRT to bus as long as it is within a 45 minute window. There are no additional charges for transferring between MRT lines. When using an EZ-Link card, transfers from MRT to local buses will result in a reduced fare.
