Scooters Come (Back) to San Francisco
The city of San Francisco has been working on changes to their e-scooter policy. The city was ground zero for the first wave of e-scooter companies. The problem was, the scooter rollout was too aggressive. While companies tried to flood the streets with their brand and grab up marketshare, the streets (and sidewalks) began to fill up with scooters. It got out of control and the city passed legislation and removed all scooters from the streets. Companies now had to apply and work with the city in a limited controlled roll out. The next wave of that roll out begins today. Lime and Scoot (who already offers electric mopeds) have been added to the San Francisco section of Tunnel Time. JUMP (owned by Uber) already had electric bicycle services in SF and now also offer kick scooters. The last provider launching today is Spin. We don’t have information on Spin yet, but will be adding it as soon as we can.
This also marks a little bit of a sad day for us at Tunnel Time. One of the reasons we started this website was that we found most of the information out there was outdated. With today’s launch of the new e-scooter program in San Francisco, the one company who was allowed to operate, has lost that ability. We’ve gone ahead and removed Skip scooters from the website so that our visitors to San Francisco have the most up to date information. We hope that as the city expands the program, we will be able to add them back to the site again.
