The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) is the public transportation provider in Montréal. STM operates over 200 bus routes and 4 subway lines that serve about 2.3 million riders every day. Public transit in Montréal operates by a fixed price model, it only costs one amount to use the STM in one direction. You do not pay by distance, nor by time spent travelling as long as your trip is under 2 hours.

Fares

There are 3 different ways you can purchase entrance onto Metro and buses in Montréal. Each fare type can be purchased using cash, credit cards or debit cards at the Metro station of your choice. Purchasing tickets from the Bus must be done in cash.

Ticket

Tickets are the standard paper ticket that can be purchased in many different options. The common tickets can be purchased from bus drivers at the front of the bus, or from fare collector booths at Metro stations while group tickets and passes are only available from Metro fare vending machines, fare collector booths or STM point of sale (certain pharmacies and small shops sell STM tickets).

1 Trip - $3.50

Single trip tickets are for one way trips and are valid for 2 hours.

2 Trips - $6.50

2 Trips tickets (or round-trip) is valid for two individual trips by the same person. Each trip is valid for 2 hours each.

10 Trips - $29.50

10 Trips tickets give you a discount for buying in bulk. You end up saving $0.55 per trip.

Group - $17.50

A Group ticket allows 1 adult and up to 10 children ages 6 to 17 to travel together.

OPUS Card & Occasional Card

The public transportation fare card in Montréal is called the OPUS Card. This card can be reloaded with a balance amount, or can have unlimited travel purchased on it. Occasional Cards are like OPUS card but cannot be recharged. OPUS Cards and Occasional Cards can be purchased at Metro ticket booths or fare vending machines in a Metro station.

Unlimited Evening - $5.50

Unlimited travel between 6:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. the next day.

Unlimited Weekend - $14.25

Unlimited travel between 4:00 p.m. on Friday and 5:00 a.m. on Monday.

1 Day Pass - $10.00

24 hours of unlimited travel.

3 Day Pass - $20.00

72 hours of unlimited travel.

Weekly Pass - $27.25

Unlimited travel from Monday to 11:59 p.m. the following Sunday. Available on OPUS Card only.

Monthly Pass - $88.50

Unlimited travel from the first to the last day of the calendar month. Available on OPUS Card only.
