How to Board & Exit The Metro

Tap your single fare ticket, or Viva Viagem card on the gate to enter the metro station. You will then follow the signs to find the platform for your line and direction. When the metro subway arrives, every door will open up on each train car automatically at each station. You do not need to request stops or press any buttons or levers to open the doors. The door opening is controlled by the driver. The subway is a tap on tap off system, so you will also need to tap your card when exiting.

Transfer Rules

You can transfer from one metro line to another as long as you don't cross any exit gates. There are no discounted fares for transferring to or from the metro and other methods of transportation (tram, bus, ferry).
