Japan Reopens Borders

The Japanese Government has announced that they will be reopening the borders to individual tourists on October 11, 2022. They will also be lifting many of the existing COVID-19 entry requirements. Here are the details:

  • Borders open at 12:00 a.m. midnight local time (GMT + 9) on October 11, 2022

  • Visas will no longer be required for stays less than 90 days. The list of countries that have visa exemptions in Japan can be found here.

  • Negative COVID-19 test no longer required for fully vaccinated travellers.

  • Travellers who are not fully vaccinated are still required to show a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours before departure. Japan defines “fully vaccinated” as 2 doses + booster.

  • Use the MySOS screening app to fast track your entry. Download here.

Obviously this information can change, so best to check in with local authorities before departure.
