The following is the introduction post of a series we are going to be doing titled: Designing a Public Transportation Network. In this seven part series, we’ll be focusing on the different considerations when creating or expanding public transportation for a region.

Designing a public transportation system for a major city is a complex and multifaceted challenge that requires careful consideration of many different factors. Here is an overview of the key elements that agencies should consider in designing such a system:

Network Design

The first step would be to design the network, taking into account the city's geography, population density, and travel patterns. This would involve determining the most efficient routes, as well as the best locations for stops and stations.

Modes of Transportation
